If you're planning a trip to the Algarve, don't miss out on Burgau. This charming fishing village is one of my favorite beach towns towns in this region, and it's not hard to see why. Located just 10 kilometers from Lagos and an hour's drive from Faro Airport, Burgau boasts a picturesque setting, with cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and a sandy beach. In this blog, I'll tell you all about why Burgau is worth a visit and what you can expect to see and do here.

It's easy to fall in love with Burgau's charming village atmosphere and its stunning surroundings. The beach of Burgau is known for its crystal clear waters and soft sand, making it the perfect spot for swimming and sunbathing. But if you're up for some adventure, there are plenty of opportunities for water sports such as surfing, kayaking and stand-up paddling.
What makes Burgau truly unique is its location in the heart of the Costa Vicentina Natural Park. This protected area is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna and offers breathtaking views over the rugged coastline. So whether you're a nature lover, a beach bum, or a thrill-seeker, Burgau has something to offer for everyone.

The village has spread out from the old centre a little bit with a few new holiday accommodations but all buildings and houses are still mostly low rise. If you're looking for the perfect place to stay near the beach, make sure to check out my beach flat on Airbnb!
The steep town centre streets take you straight to the beautiful main beach, Praia do Burgau. A white sandy cove situated on the clear blue Atlantic and its white washed houses leaning crookedly against each other up the hilly landscape, make this place a true gem!

The best time to visit Burgau
I would recommend staying here anywhere between March and November. Winter can be (a little too) quiet and tranquil in the town and most cafe's and restaurants are usually closed. However the weather in winter is still great. Enjoy your morning bica (espresso) under the Algarve sun whilst watching the surfers walking down the cobbled streets into ocean.
Summer can be busy and (in my opinion) a little too touristy. That's why spring and fall are perfect for traveling to the Algarve. The weather is beautiful, everything is open and there are not to many crowds.
