Just about 7 kilometers west from Lagos you'll find the beautiful beach town of Praia da Luz. The town, situated on a beautiful bay with its big black rock formation called Rocha Negra, is known for its beautiful coastline and beach. Here you can find many cafe's and restaurants. This in combinations with its great winter surf, makes this one one of my favorite towns to stay in the Algarve. Originally (of course 😉) this was an old fisherman town. Wondering what to do and see when you're staying here? Let me tell you! 👇
The beaches around Praia da Luz are absolutely stunning! So I can only recommend to hop in your car and start exploring them! Sea caves, natural bridges and white sandy coves with turquoise waters, you can find it all! The main beach of Praia da Luz is beautiful (picture) to hang out and watch surfers at sunset whilst enjoying a vino verde at one of the cafe's at the boulevard.

Hike from Lagos to Praia da Luz
The stunning coastline of Praia da Luz makes this the ideal place to go on cliff hikes. One of my favorite hikes starts (can be walked either way) starts at Ponta da Piedade (Lagos) and ends at Praia da Luz. The hike is about 11 kilometers and takes around 3 hours (one way). I recommend to take a taxi to Ponta the Piedade as taxies are quite cheap around here and Lagos is just 7 kilometers away. Once you get to Ponta the Piedade, make sure to check out this stunning viewing point!
From the viewing point you start walking in western direction on the unpaved path towards Praia da Luz. Check out the details of this hike below. 👇
Go on a road trip
The whole Algarve is great for road tripping. Highways are wide and generally pretty empty trough beautiful landscapes. Once you leave the high way up into the mountainous landscape yofind endless windy roads withj beautiful views. All together: perfect for a road trip and exploring beaches and beautiful nature. Just about 7 kilometers east from Praia da Luz, you'll find the small city of Lagos. It's famous for the stunning viewing point Ponta de Piedade and its steep wooden steps to the sandy cove of Praia do Camilo. Lagos has a beautiful old town where you can find cute bars, restaurants and hops. Read more about things to do in Lagos!
Supping, surfing and kayaking
The Algarve is a great place to go surfing, especially in winter time (October - April). You can find a few surf schools in Praia da Luz (many in Lagos) where you can book a lesson or just rent a board.
Spending time in summer? Definitely try supping or kayaking!
Huge rock formations, natural bridges, sea caves and clear blue waters make this the ideal good weather activity. Just google any surf/sup school around you and they can take you on an amazing trips!
