What are the best luxury hotels in the Algarve (including personal tips!)?

Looking for the best reviewed and most stylish luxury hotels in the Algarve? Then you'll love this article. I've handpicked my favourite 4- and 5-star hotels in some of the prettiest places in the Algarve. And because I always love to share more than just a hotel, I’ll also give you my personal tips on what to see and do while you’re there!
When searching for the best hotels in the Algarve I personally like to use Booking.com (biggest collection) and Agoda (best deals).
1. Praia do Canal Nature Resort
📍Aljezur | Western Algarve
* * * * * 5 star hotel
This is my very very first choice. Why? In my opinion this hotel has it all. It's stylish, yet not formal, great design, a breathtaking location in nature and it’s located on the wild west coast of the Algarve that I love so much.
I also really love the rooms here. They are spacious, comfortable and have a very natural feel, with earthy colours and beautiful natural materials. It all fits so nicely with the surroundings.
For me, this is the perfect place if you want to enjoy nature and still have all the comfort you need. You can go for a walk, do yoga, cycle around the area or simply relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. And if you’re travelling with kids to the Algarve, there is plenty to do for them too.
Facilities
There is also a lovely heated outdoor pool and a spa where you can really relax. I also love that the restaurant focuses on local and organic ingredients. And if you feel like exploring, there are beautiful beaches nearby and you can even go horse riding through the countryside.
For me, this is one of those places where you can really slow down, enjoy nature and just have a wonderful time together.
To do around Praia do Canal Nature Resort
The west coast of the Algarve is perfect for outdoor adventures. You'll find stunning coastal hikes, some of the best waves in Europe (so yes, definitely take a surf lesson!) and cute little towns nearby with a great surf vibe.
Aljezur is small but charming and has everything you need. You'll find lovely coffee bars, good restaurants and cute little shops. Along the coast, not far from the hotel, you'll definitely want to visit Arrifana, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. The best sunset drink ever is at Tiraul, a beach bar on the cliff (picture above). And one of my personal favourites: Odeceixe. It’s such a lovely little place and absolutely worth a visit.

2. Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa

This is what I imagine when I think of a true luxury hotel. The natural colours and stylish interior design blend in perfectly with the beautiful colours of the Algarve nature. This is the perfect place if you’re looking for pure luxury, privacy and a peaceful escape all in one.
The hotel is beautifully located on top of the golden Algarve cliffs, with breathtaking views over the blue Atlantic Ocean. After a day full of activities, there is nothing better than enjoying a romantic evening watching the sunset from your private pool (available with the villas).
Good to know: this hotel and its villas are also family-friendly, making it a wonderful choice for a high-end family holiday.
To do
One of my favourite things to do nearby is visiting Rolha. It’s a lovely little wine bar and shop where you can enjoy local wines and discover some beautiful Portuguese products.
Of course, you also don’t want to miss the stunning beaches around here. The coastline is perfect for long walks (hike east to Praia da Marinha, its stunning), with beautiful cliff paths, hidden beaches and some of the most impressive views in the Algarve. Take your time, explore the area and enjoy the incredible nature around you.

Hospedaria

This place looks like it’s straight out of a magazine! Hospedaria is truly a special place and one of those hotels that instantly makes you feel relaxed. It’s the perfect place to slow down, reconnect with yourself and enjoy the peaceful surroundings between the sea and the mountains.
The hotel has a beautiful stylish design, a luxurious feel and a very relaxed atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can spend your days doing absolutely nothing, enjoying the nature around you, or simply taking a moment to breathe and recharge.
For me, this is the perfect escape if you’re looking for a peaceful and stylish stay in the Algarve, away from the crowds but still close to the beautiful town of Tavira.
To do
Tavira is one of my favourite places in the Algarve. It has a relaxed, authentic feeling with beautiful old streets, charming squares and great little restaurants.
Don’t miss Cacela Velha, one of my favourite spots for incredible views over the Ria Formosa. I also recommend visiting Ilha de Tavira for a beautiful beach day and exploring the salt pans around Tavira for a peaceful walk surrounded by nature. I also love taking a boat tour to discover the beautiful islands and beaches in front of the east coast of the Algarve.

Bela Vista Hotel & Spa

This 5-star luxury hotel has the absolute wow-effect! Bela Vista is one of those places that feels truly special from the moment you arrive. The hotel is set in a beautiful historic building right on the cliffs of Praia da Rocha, with stunning views over the Atlantic.
I absolutely love the unique style of this hotel. It has that perfect mix of old-world charm, luxury and a relaxed atmosphere. And with direct access to the beach, you really can’t beat the location!
To do
There is so much to do around here! Outside the summer season, I definitely recommend taking a surf lesson at Praia da Rocha. The cliffs are also perfect for a beautiful hike, both east and west of the hotel.
For something a little different, take a SUP tour through the caves along the coast. And don’t miss Alvor! Head to Praia dos Três Irmãos and have lunch at Caniço Restaurant, which is tucked away between the rocks. Such a special spot!

Octant Vila Monte
📍Moncarapacho | Eastern Algarve

This place feels like a little hidden gem in the Algarve. Octant Vila Monte is stylish, relaxed and surrounded by beautiful nature. I love the peaceful atmosphere here, it feels more like staying at a beautiful country house than a traditional hotel.
The rooms and little houses are spread around the property, surrounded by gardens, orange trees and lots of greenery. It’s the perfect place to slow down, enjoy a long lunch, take a dip in the pool and simply enjoy the peaceful Algarve countryside.
If you’re looking for a stylish hotel away from the busy tourist areas, but still close to the coast and some of the prettiest places in the eastern Algarve, this is definitely one to put on your list.
To do
My biggest tip? Visit Ilha de Armona! This beautiful little island just off the coast has the most stunning white beaches and clear blue water. It’s the perfect place to spend a relaxed day by the sea.
Fuseta and Faro are also lovely for a little stroll, exploring the streets and finding a nice place for lunch or dinner. Both have a really nice local feel and are great for a relaxed day out.
